I have been living in the Randwick area for nearly two years but I only just visited this gem, Little Bay, a few weeks ago. The beauty of the Eastern Suburbs yet again surprises me. It's a pity about the transport and parking situation, but hey - thats what mobile physios were invented for! I have been getting into snorkelling a lot this summer and most of my physio clients keep telling me that Gordon's bay and Shelley beach are the best places, I think they have missed a trick with this one. Peaceful is the best word to describe this isolated beach located behind Prince Henry Hospital. It is surrounded by golf courses and the swell in the bay itself is little more than a gentle rise and fall. The bay’s two strips of sand are recognised as the safest of all of Sydney’s ocean beaches, which is a winner for those family-folk among us with little kiddies. I love this place and have been raving to all my Coogee and Randwick clients about it since I swam there a few weeks ago!
Also I read in the news that the water quality at Malabar Beach is at an all time high. The State Government’s Beach Watch program has rated Malabar Beach’s condition as ‘good’, a vast improvement on its previous ‘poor’ status. A $3 million joint project between Council and Sydney Water last year to divert stormwater runoff from the beach is clearly paying off. All beaches in Randwick City are now rated ‘good’ or better and are in great shape for summer. Next up: removing the ugly stormwater pipe that ruins the view when swimming!
Wanted to share my gem of a discovery for those of you living nearby. And even if you aren't - it's worth the trip, I promise!
Happy Sunday, to all.
